Nth occurrence (position) of a character in text string in EXCEL

Find the position of the third, fourth, etc. occurrence of the character in the word (text string).

let's Suppose that the cell A5 a text string: MOM Soap FRAME (see sample file).

Formula: =FIND(CHAR(1),SUBSTITUTE(A5,"AND",the CHAR(1),3)) find a position third occurrence of the character "A" case-sensitive (9).

take a closer look. The SUBSTITUTE() replaces the third occurrence of the character "A" ASCII character =1 (obviously not in a text string). Then the function FINA() finds it and displays its position. If a third occurrence is found, an error is thrown.

the Formula is case-insensitive:
=FIND(CHAR(1),to SUBSTITUTE(LOWER(A5),"and",the CHAR(1),3))

count the number of occurrences of the symbols can be read here.

Formula: =FIND(CHAR(1),SUBSTITUTE(A5,"MA",the CHAR(1),2)) find a position second occurrences of the substring "MA" case-sensitive (3).
